Truck Accidents
The personal injury and wrongful death attorneys at Pulverman & Pulverman, LLP try all manner of motor vehicle accidents cases, including trucking accidents throughout Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties, from Highway 101 along the Pacific Coast to the winding mountains of the San Marcos Pass and other locations.
The Danger of Trucking Accidents
Call them semi-trucks, tractor-trailers, or big rigs, collisions involving commercial trucks quite often cause catastrophic injuries or death to the occupants of the other vehicle, due to the immense difference in size and weight of the truck versus the other unfortunate vehicle. Although truck drivers are trained in the handling and limitations of their vehicle, the very nature of their size and weight makes them more difficult to maneuver, creates blind spots for the truck driver and other drivers, and requires a good deal of following distance, stopping distance, and reaction time, especially when traveling the highways at high speed.
The intense pressure on drivers and trucking companies to deliver goods as quickly as possible raises many risks of accidents from overly aggressive or reckless driving, or from truckers who continue to drive even when fatigued or worse yet, take unsafe stimulants in order to stay awake behind the wheel. Although federal regulations dictate maximum hours of service for truck drivers, many truckers are simply exempt from the regulations, and even those who are covered may still sit behind the wheel for 11 hours a day, six days a week.
Holding the Trucking Industry Accountable for Injuries
In addition to truck driver liability, trucking companies can be liable for the conduct of their driver for negligent acts behind the wheel. Also, the trucking company may have additional responsibility to see that the truck is loaded and balanced properly and properly inspected and maintained. A crash may be the fault of the driver, the trucking company, a vehicle or parts manufacturer, or any combination of the above.
At Pulverman & Pulverman, LLP, we know how to investigate a truck accident properly and identify the causes and people responsible. We will passionately litigate any matter at trial or on appeal as necessary to obtain fair compensation for our client.
